Are you over-training?

Finding the balance between too much exercise and couch surfing can be difficult for those new to exercise. You may be eager to reach your goals and find yourself going from no exercise to several hours each day in this pursuit. Enthusiasm is important but too much exercise can actually negate your progress, here's why. 1. Your muscles need rest If you don't take days off, your muscles have no chance to repair and grow. This is important because the more muscle mass you have the more calories you burn (even asleep). 2. Sleep disturbance Trouble falling asleep or staying asleep can be an indicator of over-training. This can affect your fitness goals in two ways; our bodies repair themselves while we sleep, this can impact muscle repair and growth. Secondly, when we are tired our bodies seek energy, leading to food cravings and possible over-eating. 3. Weight-loss plateau Once your body gets used to your new level of activity, the frequency and intensity level must change on a regular basis. Without this variance, your body may see persistent levels of intense exercise as a threat causing it to hold fat stores. Have more questions? Leave me a comment below.
